The Obama Era is Over by DANIEL GREENFIELD, ISRAEL NEWS November 10, 2016…..

Obama and his supporters loved talking about history. His victory was historic. They were on the right side of history. History was an inevitable arc that bent their way.

The tidal force of demographics had made the old America irrelevant. Any progressive policy agenda was now possible because we were no longer America.  We Were Obamerica. A hip, happening place full of smiling gay couples, Muslim women in hijabs and transgender actors. We were all going to live in a New York City coffee house, work at Green Jobs and live in the post-national future.

The past was gone. We were falling into the gorgeous wonderful future of dot com instant deliveries and outsourced everything. We would become more tolerant and guilty. The future was Amazon and Disney. It was hot and cold running social justice. The Bill of Rights was done. Ending the First and Second Amendments was just a clever campaign away. Narratives on news sites drove everything.

Presidents were elected by Saturday Night Live skits.

John Oliver, John Stewart, Stephen Colbert and Samantha Bee were our journalists. Safe spaces were everywhere and you better watch your micro-aggressions, buddy. No more coal would be mined. No more anything would be made.

The end of men was here. The end of the dead white men of the literary canon. The end of white people. The end of binary gender and marriage. The end of reason. The end of art. The end of 2 + 2 equaling 4. This was Common Core time. It was time to pardon an endless line of drug dealers. To kill cops and praise criminals. To be forced to buy worthless health insurance for wealth redistribution to those who voted their way to wealth.

This was Obama’s America. And there was no going back. We were rushing through endless goal posts of social transformation. The military fell. Then the police. Now it looks as quaint as anything from the 50s, the 70s or the 80s. A brief moment of foolishness that already appears odd and awkward. And then one day nostalgic. It wasn’t the future. It’s already the past. It’s history.

Scalia died. Hillary Clinton was bound to win. And she would define the Supreme Court. Down-ticket races would give her a friendly Senate. And then perhaps even the House.

But there is no right side of history. There is only the side we choose. The Obama era was permanent. It was history.

Now it is history.

It‘s shocking ascendancy has been paired with an equally shocking descent. The Obama era is done. It’s gone.   It’s over. It was wiped from the pages of history in one night that left Congress and the White House in Republican hands.

It would have been bad enough if Jeb Bush had succeeded Obama. That would have been inconvenient, but not a repudiation. Instead Obama’s legacy was dashed to pieces. His frantic efforts to campaign for Hillary did no good.  The public did not vocally reject him. What they did was even worse. They brushed past him. They sidelined him. They gave him passable approval ratings while dismissing his biggest accomplishments. They forgot him. They made it clear that he did not matter.

And that is in its own way far more brutal and wounding. They didn’t just destroy the Obama era.  Instead they dismissed it as if it never existed.

Obama didn’t make history after all. He wasn’t a teleprompter demi-god standing athwart of history. He was Carter and Ford. He was there to be forgotten. He didn’t change the world. He wasn’t the messiah. He was merely mortal. Just another politician who will sag and age. Who will, in the end, be photographed like Bill Clinton, lonely and lost  in a world that has passed him by.

The Obama era ends not with a bang, but with a whimper. With a national consensus that maybe he didn’t really matter so much after all. And those to whom he mattered the most were his enemies determined to undo everything he did.

Obama once thought that he belonged to the ages. Now he belongs in the rubbish bin.

BANG! SENATE SHOOTS DOWN GUN CONTROL…….

The Democrat-controlled U.S. Senate today shot down President Obama’s effort to control guns in a series of votes.

The votes were on amendments to a bill by Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., advanced last week, 68-31, to the Senate floor for debate.

The first, and key, amendment was to expand background checks widely. It failed 54-46 under a requirement of 60 votes for adoption.

The White House has lobbied intensely across the country, including using emotional pleas from the families of victims of the Newtown school shooting. Obama administration officials had confirmed the president’s agenda was sinking. Reuters reported the frustration level was so high that press secretary Jay Carney took to the podium of the briefing room to urge senators to back Obama.

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, told the assembled body that Congress should be focused on “stopping violent criminals” but not “targeting law-abiding citizens.”

“The approach that is effective is targeting violent criminals while safeguarding the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens,” he said.

Cruz blamed the Obama Justice Department for failing to prosecute gun criminals, noting that of 48,000 felons or fugitives who tried to obtain weapons, only 44 were prosecuted.

The support just wasn’t there. Among the legislation that senators scheduled for vote was:

The Public Safety and Second Amendment Rights Protection Act by Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and others. It expands background checks to gun shows and Internet sales. It also authorizes $400 million to upgrade the national background check database. It failed 54-46 under a requirement of 60 votes for adoption.

A proposal by Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, to swap the background check provisions of the existing bill. It would target those who lie on background check applications and raise access to information about those who have been found mentally impaired by a court. It failed 52-48.

The Stop Illegal Trafficking in Firearms Act from Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., and others. It would enable those who purchase guns for others to avoid a background check. It failed 58-42.

Concealed-carry reciprocity from Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, and others. It would treat state-sponsored concealed carry permits like driver’s licenses, making them valid across state lines. It failed 57-43

The Assault Weapons Ban from Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., and others. It targets hundreds of types of weapons for a complete ban. It failed, 40 to 60.

A plan from Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., to require a court order finding a person a danger to himself or herself or others before that person is banned from buying a gun. Failed 56-44.

The Large-Capacity Magazine Feeding Devices Amendment from Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J.. It bans devices holding more than 10 rounds but creates a special class of citizen – the off-duty police officer – for exemption. Failed 46-54.

A plan from Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wy., to penalize a state financially if officials publicly release gun ownership information.

And Sen. Tom Harkin’s plan to encourage suicide prevention and mental health awareness.

Far-left television personality Piers Morgan reacted to the votes.

“Imagine those Newtown family members at the Senate today – suddenly realizing their lawmakers don’t give a stuff about their dead children,” he said.

The Democrats were unable even to corral their own for the key vote on background checks, losing the support of Sens. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D.; Mark Begich, D-Alaska; Max Baucus, D-Mont.; and Mark Pryor, D-Ark.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s “Mayors Against Illegal Guns” called the vote a “damning indictment of the stranglehold that special interests have on Washington.”

The National Rifle Association said that the plan would have failed to reduce violent crime or keep kids safe in schools. But the group said it would continue to work on ways to prosecute violent criminals, fix a broken mental health system and protect children.

Court: Obama NLRB recess appointments unconstitutional…..

A federal appeals court panel unanimously agreed that President Obama violated the Constitution last year by appointing three members to the National Labor Relations Board while the Senate was not technically in recess, circumventing Senate Republicans who had held up his picks for months.
The D.C. circuit court’s ruling could also raise questions about Obama’s recess appointment of Richard Cordray to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which is being challenged in a separate case.
If the ruling stands, it would invalidate all the decisions made by the NLRB since the appointees joined the board.

The Unravelling Campaign: Obama goes small……

The Obama campaign continues to beat the long deceased horse, concerning Big Bird, Binders, and Bayonets. They simply cannot seem to keep the campaign together, as they continue to run away from the issues that face the entire nation and towards the issues… that have very little to do with the office of the Presidency in the first place. Ed Morrissey of HotAir.com analyzes the Obama campaign’s recent moves against the GOP ticket:

…How lovely. Obama has lately been making the same point (albeit, in more genteel terms) while out on the campaign trail, extolling the supposed lack of flip-flops and self-contradictions in his political past because “trust matters” and Mitt Romney doesn’t have more credibility on that front because he’s constantly lying through his teeth, or something. If we could all just forget that Obama’s proposed tax hikes on the wealthy won’t even come close to covering the spending he’d like to do; that ObamaCare does impose both explicit and implicit taxes on the middle class; that Obama himself is constantly distorting Romney’s positions; I could go on and on.

This president just keeps on shrinking.

There is a very simple answer for this. The Obama campaign has effectively run out of options. In fact, if one were to give the Obama campaign a grade for their performance this election year, it would be about the same as the President’s grade on the economy: ‘incomplete’.

One could say that Obama is doing the best he can with what he has at his disposal. Anytime Mitt Romney says something only slightly off, the Democrats have to sieze it like a pack of famished wild coyotes. Why? Well, anything is better than drawing attention to the President’s record, the President’s coverups, and the President’s policies. This is what an unravelling campaign looks like.
